Mac M1 shopping for the holidays? Share Christmas first
I’m quite proud of myself. I managed not to buy a MacBook M1 nor a Mac Mini M1 during Black Friday right up to Cyber Monday. It was quite a tough fight with myself.
I was pretty sure I needed one. I had quit my job and I was determined to get into a certain industry by being a mobile developer. Problem is, I don’t have much mobile development skills. I do have web development skills — hey, I can code JavaScript on Node.js and bang out Angular or React applications. I’m pretty sure I can do some React Native or something similar. But Swift? A teensy weensy. And there is not much Swift stuff to do outside of iOS development. And I read somewhere that Objective C developers get paid a fair bit. Even if they seem now, well, outdated and oldey fogey. But that’s not the point. The point is that I, at some point, will need to code and compile iOS apps and upload to the iOS App Store. That means that I will need an Apple machine. And I’ve been reading up about how fast these things are so, yeah, why not get one?
Except that in my current financial state, and with young children, I will need to save money. Sports lessons. Dance lessons. Music lessons. I do have a little bit of income coming in from my investments. But I will need to have a few more streams of income to get the bills out of the way. So, keeping expenses down is a…
